WordPress help for Chicago small businesses
WordPress Chicago is run by 45Squared, a small Midwest studio. We’ve built WordPress sites since 2015 and host more than 30 today, so we know where WordPress problems usually come from. You deal with Aaron, the person who does the work, by email and a short video call if one helps. Every fix is quoted at a fixed price before we touch the site, and nothing starts until you approve it. Send the form below with your web address and what’s wrong to get started.
Problems we fix
| What you’re seeing | What’s usually behind it |
|---|---|
| The site broke after an update | A plugin or theme that conflicts with the new version |
| “There has been a critical error on this website” | A PHP error, often from an outdated plugin |
| The contact form stopped sending | Mail delivery settings, or a form plugin that changed |
| The site is slow on phones | Heavy images, a bloated page builder or cheap shared hosting |
| Strange links or pop-ups appeared | A hacked plugin or a stolen login |
| Nobody can log in | Lost passwords, or an account tied to a departed developer |
If yours isn’t on the list, describe it in your own words. That’s enough for us to start.
What you can check before you write
WordPress has a built-in health check under Tools > Site Health. It flags critical issues, such as plugins waiting for updates or an outdated version of PHP. A screenshot of that screen helps us quote faster. Also note what changed just before the problem started: an update, a new plugin, a change of host. If you have a recent backup, don’t overwrite it. The WordPress backup guide explains why an untouched copy matters. If you think the site has been hacked, change your admin password and tell us in the form.
How a fix works
- You send the form with your site address and what’s wrong.
- We look and reply, usually within one business day, with what we think is behind it.
- You get a fixed price for the fix. Nothing starts until you approve it.
- We fix it and check it, on phones and desktops, and tell you what we changed.
If the fix turns out to be bigger than it first looked, we tell you before going further and quote the extra work. You only pay for what you approved.
Keeping it fixed
Most WordPress problems come from sites nobody looks after. The official hardening guide puts keeping software updated near the top of its list, and updates sometimes break things. Our managed WordPress hosting and maintenance costs $35 a month: your own server, daily backups, uptime monitoring, and every update applied and then checked. It’s optional, month to month, and you can leave with a full backup whenever you like. If the trouble is search visibility or accessibility rather than a fault, start with the free audit instead.
Common questions
How much does it cost to fix my WordPress site?
It depends on what’s wrong, so we look before we price. You send the site address and a description of the problem, Aaron replies by email, usually within one business day, and you get a fixed price for the fix before any work starts. If the problem turns out to be bigger than it looked, we tell you and re-quote. You never get a bill you didn’t approve.
Do you fix WordPress sites you didn't build?
Yes. Plenty of sites that need help were built by someone else, often a freelancer or agency who has since moved on, and that’s fine. We check the site’s health first, including outdated plugins, broken forms and backup status, so there are no surprises. If it’s sound, we fix what’s broken. If it isn’t worth saving, we say so plainly and the choice stays yours.
Do I have to sign up for hosting or a maintenance plan?
No. A one-off fix is a one-off fix. Many owners choose our managed hosting afterwards, because it costs $35 a month and includes daily backups, uptime monitoring and every update applied and checked, which stops most problems from coming back. Others keep their current host. Either way the site, the domain and the logins stay yours.
